There was a time when the marketing funnel was unheard of. A time where all you needed to do was build a webpage that made an offer, and get traffic to that page to sell something to them. They would click the button, put their information in and that was it. You simply let them click the button and buy. But people don’t do that like they used to.

The online space has just gotten too noisy for people to hear you trying to get their attention. There is actually a term for it. It is called Banner blindness. It means that the old banner ads don’t really work. People just don’t really see them anymore…

Consumers don’t want to be bombarded with ads for things they just don’t care about. Instead they want the solutions they are looking for. This is why marketing funnels are vital to your business. It gives you the ability to give the right people, the right information when they look for it. Greatly increasing your chances of turning them into a customer.

There are 3 things someone needs before they will buy from you.

  1. They need to know who you are.
  2. They need to know that you will provide them the solution they are looking for.
    When you show them that you can and will help them. They are more likely to look to you again.

  3. They need to like you.
  4. By helping them with your content, human nature makes this happen. The more you show them you want to help, the more they start to like you.

  5. They need to feel that they can trust you.
  6. As luck would have it, all 3 of these emotional bonds form pretty much at the same time.

    As they get to know who you are as a company and a brand. The ones who are most likely to become customers are the ones who like you and what you do. Everyone trusts the people we like. After all, why would we like someone who we could not trust?

As long as it solves their immediate need. It is one of the most powerful means to generate new business. Because, it gives a new visitor a sneak peek into your knowledge about their specific problem. Content Marketing also lets them learn about not just your business, but you as an individual. They get the opportunity to decide if they like you. And, when you are helping them solve their problems, they are comfortable trusting you.

    So what is a marketing funnel?

    Okay, Now you have some understanding on why you need a marketing funnel. Lets get into what the marketing funnel is.
    A marketing funnel is an automated sequence of pages or steps, that guides your traffic thru the content you have created. Providing easy to consume solutions they are looking for. To do that manually, you would have to be physically on your computer 24/7.

    Luckily, you don’t need to do that with the Marketing funnel. The marketing funnel is an automated system. Handling all of the prospecting and nurturing for you.

    The Marketing funnel structure.

    The very top of the funnel (the widest element) is usually the 1st page your traffic lands on. it is the introduction stage. This is where you want to give them their first opportunity to move to the next level ( usually joining your newsletter or email list). Now of all the traffic that sees this page a % of them will be interested. Some of them will not be. This is fine, it is exactly how a funnel works.

    The next part of the funnel should focus more on adding valuable content that helps them with something specific. Remember each of your pieces should move them along towards their desired outcome.
    Again, a % are going to look at this content, some are even going to take action and apply what they learn. they have moved down another level in your funnel.

    Here is where most marketing funnels start to differ.

    Some funnels continue to nurture their leads and will just use email marketing to move them away from the marketing funnel and into a sales funnel ( same as a marketing funnel but highly geared towards finding customers and making sales.) Others will move towards a greater level of commitment ( such as a free call or discovery session). But they all focus on nurturing your new prospect so you can transition them into being more likely to make a purchase.
